Long overdue...

eI am way overdue for a post on how much fun I had at the Stop and Shop Show!

The show was great! I was so impressed with the way that Jenna and Ally ran the show, they are two super-amazing chicks and so great to work with. I had a great booth space, it was right up front, you couldn't ask for a better spot! It was great to meet the other vendors and see what they had for sale.And this time I had a cute little helper for the whole weekend.... I am not used to such great help and I felt compleatly pampered all weekend. I was also impressed that everything was so different. For example, there were 5 different booths selling bags, but every one was different from each other. If you have time, I suggest you check out Bootyfly bags as they are really cool and I see people with them all the time!  And if you love jewelery too, check out Beadjuled for some unique jewelry that Ally Ng makes.

I picked up a hobo style bag from Silver lining in a great green color. I am a big big fan of green, it's my favorite color and if I am not careful, everything I buy is green and I look a little like Sprout. Anyhow, I am really impressed with the quality of this bag. I know how to sew, and the fact that this is handmade is so amazing. It's perfect! You couldn't tell that it was handmade at all, the quality is so good. I am looking forward to picking up another one in the future!

I did pick up a gift for a friend with a science degree too... from The Phage. This is a really cool company that hand screens t-shirts and underwear with closeups of bacteria and other science related themes. My favorite was the Double Helix.

But I spent my week relaxing with a book, "That must not be named" of course. (And not doing much else until the book was finished!) It was great, I really enjoyed reading it. I thought the ending was very well done, as it leaves the adventures finished without hope of a badly written sequel to the saga in 5 years time. I think it will make a great movie too...

But I have some new ideas for my line of bags.... I have had SO MANY requests for MAN BAGS that I think I am ready to design and launch a new mens line. It's hard to guess what my man friends like, but thankfully they are picky enough to give requests. Robots... men seem to like robots?

I love days off!

Even if my day off from my "real" job means working at home... it is so great to not have to do anything at all. If I wanted to I could have stood outside the Bernard Callebut store and sniffed the air all day. If I wanted to I could have layed in the grass in the river valley all day. If I wanted to I could have stared at the pink flamingos at WEM all day. (I actually do, on a regular basis stand and stare at those birds. They are magical! If I owned a pink Flamingo, I think I would call him Stems if he was a boy, Sparkle if it was a girl).

But, on this day off I actually went to work anyhow. Pancake breakfast. As soon as they put up those posters with a cartoon of a stack of pancakes.... I was hooked. No way I was going to miss free pancakes, with the possibility of fatty, greasy parts-o-pig on the side. And I actually made a prophesy that came true. I told our Q.P.I.C that since today was my day off, it would entail a slur-pee and a dough-nut. Now, if I knew what was going to happen, I would have brought my magic 8 ball with me as well.

Picture it, Edmonton. July 18, 2007. It's a muggy, hot day. No breeze. I was wearing my grey sweater, old ratty jeans and pumas. No make-up whatsoever. I pull into the closest 7-11 to my place and what do I see? Some sort of melding betwixt reality and some sort of cartoon reality. The Simpson's have taken over the 7-11. There is paraphernalia. There are Squishies. There are pink dough-nuts. What is going on here? Apparently, the blurb that I read in the paper is true. They have renamed some stores "The Quickie Mart" and they are selling neat-o things that before today, were only fiction. I am just sad that before I left, I didn't check the cereal isle to see if they had any Krusty-O's.

And then I ran errands. I re-tract the bit before about my new zipper supplier of being cranky. Today they were all nice to me, and I think I even entertained them slightly with my sparkling wit and candid nature. Oh, before that I had to pick up bags. And, the store was closed. So... what do I do? Of course I call them and leave a message on they're machine about how they should have a sign noting they're hours and how I have been standing outside... and on and on. Not thinking that they guy who was going to open the store was standing right behind me, listening to me leave them a message, and of course, I am in the way and he actually cannot open the store because I am blocking the way with my foot in my mouth. Sometimes I think I should be on T.V.

Oh wait- I was! Breakfast T.V on Tuesday. I got to be in that Green Room that everyone talks about. It had a couch. Pretty exciting stuff. This of course, to promote the Stop and Shop Show which is on Saturday and Sunday at the Arts Barn. And I am sewing a lot. Which I love to do. I have been sewing so much that in a week and a half, I have worked my way through seasons 3-5 of the Gilmore Girls, two Kill Bills, two Casanovas, one Big Business and one old school freaky Friday starring Jodi Foster. If you haven't seen it, you have to- I don't know when I have laughed so hard at a corny movie.

I also made homemade tomato sauce for my not homemade spinach ravioli for dinner, and the best part is to come. I turn on the T.V and what do I see? The Hilarious House of Frightenstien, one of my favorite things from when I was a kid. Along with the Logdrivers Waltz commercial. And blinky weird bowling ball scenes from Sesame Street.

And the day is not over! What else could potentially happen? Um... I thought my crystal ball was around here somewhere. Oh- what's that? I will meet a rich, handsome stranger. ??? Hey... I didn't make that up. Are you doubting the powers of the universe? Or of the fortune cookie? I mean, magically mysterious crystal ball? And I have gone and done it. Way too much Gilmore Girls.

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch

Today was the hottest day in the universe. Probably not really... but it was SO hot outside today! I was at the City Market from 7am till 4 pm, and I am just cooked! I burn really easy, and try to stay out of the sun as much as possible, but I am burnt today. I believe that the radioactivness of the sun's rays actually penetrated the tent that was supposed to be my shade, and zapped me. Thus.... the Grinch reference. To me the Grinch is the person to blame for everything that goes wrong in my life. Much better to blame a fictional character than a real person. And I love Dr. Seuss anyhow, and would love to live in Who-ville. Just those eyelashes are enough for me to get my passport out.

But it was a great market day anyhow.... so many people stopped by to visit! I was very impressed with my two tall-tall helpers in the morning that set up with me. I am not exactly UN-satisfied with my height... I think it's fine, I just have to hem my pants all the time. But tall people have an advantage- longer legs and longer arms.... if I only owned some stilts. This is kind of the novelty of the week for me... I really want to learn how to walk on stilts. It's quite the joke in my small circle of loved ones that I have an affinity for anything and everything circus themed, being a plate-spinner already, and also volunteering to be a clown. (Don't make fun- it was for an orphanage in the Czech Republic) and I just love the entertainment business period. Sword Swallower's, Fire Eaters.... all things I want to try to master as well. So, I am thinking of building my own stilts and trying them out. Even though I have some heels that are like stilts already! When this project gets off the ground I will let you know.....

Next week is the Stop and Shop show, and I will have hopefully lots of pretty things that are BRAND SPANKING NEW for everyone to check out.

One week to go!

One more week until the Stop and Shop show! I am having a sew-marathon this week, trying to get ready and make sure I will have enough product. If you had a superpower what would it be? One of my favorite questions to ask people. Usually people want to fly.... I don't know why, it's so un-realistic. You couldn't go very fast without a faceplate, you would get bugs in your teeth. Save on gas though. I would pick to move super-fast. That way I could get twice as much work done as usual! Or... only have to work half the time. So this afternoon I am escaping the heat, making home-made ice-tea slurpee's in my blender.... and sewing in the basement. As soon as I have some free time, I plan to watch like, a million movies (I haven't even seen Spiderman 3 yet) and go out and take some pictures. Maybe eat a doughnut. Pet some dogs. Lay in the grass. In fact.... I think I really need to find out what is the most useless time waster there is on the face of the planet. Whatever that is, I plan to go and do it.  Any ideas?

Look what I found on ETSY today....

Here is a link to a really awesome ETSY seller... called Skull Knocker. They make really cool animals and this here is a communist octopus. I love it, and also many others in the shop too!

Also... I have an affinity for the undead.... here is a Zombie Escape Book Journal from Christina Renee over at the much beloved ETSY.  How fun is this? More fun to write all kinds of zombie goodness inside and leave it on the bus for some unsuspecting person to find!

And... I found some really neat signs at this shop.... Cinda on Etsy. There is a zombie shelter one that of course caught my eye... but I really enjoy this one as well...

Nightmare on 82nd street...

Did I forget to mention the awesome sale that Gravity Pope put on Last weekend? I was counting inventory in our warehouse on Friday... counting down the seconds until I could get down there and see what I could take home with me. And of course they had some great deals on Fleuvogs. I just couldn't let them sit there and go home with someone else could I? It must have been awhile since I went Fluevog shopping, because they totally re-vamped the store. Usually you have to fight your way to the back amidst elbows and strollers and tall tall people. Imagine my surprise when it was almost spacious and had a nice breeze blowing through? Go and check it out, even though I bought everything already.

I was SOOO lucky to catch (rerun but still new to me nevertheless) the biography of Tim Burton last night. He is my all time favorite director, I love his movies so much! I enjoy his creative mind and uniqueness vision that he brings to all his movies. I think the first one I ever saw that he worked on was "The Black Cauldron" by Disney. But of course, they didn't use his ideas. Even so, that movie scared me! Come on, I was like, 4 years old. Maybe 5. I love the fact that there ARE creative minds out there in this world, and it makes me wonder... where are the rest of them?

And I have to mention this. I have been looking to buy a house for a bit, and I am starting to actually view property's now. I went to view a townhouse last night that must have been condemned! It was the dirtiest, most disgusting rat-hole I have ever seen! I don't understand how someone could have been living there, the stench alone would have knocked me out. The basement was covered in mouse-droppings, and the 1/2 bath consisted of a toilet beside a washing machine in an open area. I am so sad that places like this exist in our town, in our COUNTRY for that matter. One thing for sure, I decided that if I can't afford somewhere nice to live, I won't live anywhere at all. That's right... a cardboard box would be nicer than that Rat-hole. At least I won't get the Hanta Virus.

And..... the cat where I am staying seems to be warming up to me. One minute she will rub on my leg, and the next she will hiss at me. The hissing seems to have gone down quite a bit though, only 3 times a day rather than ALL THE TIME. I think she still hates me, but it's like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde. This blowing hot and cold is so frustrating! This is the reason I only buy male cats. They treat you nicer. And they taste better. I am just joking..... but, not like I am the crazy cat lady. I have no asperations of the kind. One cat at a time.

Did I mention that I cooked a rabbit on Canada day? I got it from the farmers market all nicely butchered and sealed in a plastic bubble. As my money left my hands and it was filled with rabbit carcass... I started to get grossed out. I made my sister take it home in her car. And I made her cut it up for me, I didn't want to even touch it actually. I normally don't like touching dead things, and things with the skin peeled off even less. But, I cooked it, and I even made rabbit gravy too. I had 3 bites. It tasted fine, but I just couldn't get past the fact that It used to be a cute little bunny a week ago. Normally I am a picky eater, and I am always the one to find something gross in my food. Especially at restaurants. Raw chicken, hairs, fingernails and eyelashes are the norm for me. And some at the "Best" places in town. I get a lot of free meals. And a lot of apologies from managers. I am wondering though, is it just me? Am I the only one to find gross things in my food? Or..... am I the only one who pays really strict attention to what I put in my mouth? Is all food infested and everyone else just eats it anyway?
