Goals re-visited...

I mentioned before that one of my goals this year was to watch all 100 of the top voted worst movies. I checked the list again, because I know that I have seen quite a few of them already. Here are the ones that I have seen...

So... 28 down... 72 to go!  I am really going to try to see two of these this weekend. On the list we have The New adventures of Pippi Longstocking 1988, which is one I have been wanting to see... and I might also try for The Avengers 1998. Last choice would be ummm... the Garbage pail kids movie 1987.

Amigurumi?

For the past while, I have been wondering what that word is. Amigurumi. It sounds like something you hear off of the Iron Chef. To me, it sounds like a soup... possibly made of some sort of stock with Fllahg rase, which is how I spell that word. And of course, garnished with something like a sea urchin. and some sort of leaf that they only grow in the mountains of Scandinavia. (Do they have mountains there? Of course, that's where they grow those leaves). Anyhow, imagine my surprise when I scroll through ETSY and see that word describing cute knitted animals. I was always like.... ahhh, what does that mean? What does it mean? What does it mean??? So I decided to end the mystery. That's right, I put on my trench coat and my fake mustache and solved my illiteracy problem. According to my source here....

Amigurumi

Amigurumi (Japanese: from amu (編む, to knit) and nuigurumi (縫い包み, stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. Amigurumi are typically cute animals (such as bears, rabbits, cats, dogs etc), but can include inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features. Amigurumi can be knitted, but the vast majority of amigurumi are crochet.

Amigurumi are usually crocheted out of yarn. The simplest designs are worked in spirals. In contrast to typical Western crochet the rounds are not usually joined. They are also worked with a smaller size needle in proportion to the weight of the yarn in order to create a very tight-looking fabric without any gaps through which the stuffing might escape. Amigurumi are worked in sections and then joined. The extremities are often stuffed with plastic pellets to give them a life-like weight, while the rest of the body is stuffed with fiber stuffing.

The pervading aesthetic of amigurumi is cuteness, or kawaii. To this end, typical amigurumi animals have an over-sized spherical head on a cylindrical body with undersized extremities.

Number One

Even though I started this blog to promote my shop, I thought it might be funny and amusing for some people to read about my embarrassing moments. I have them pretty often, very nearly every day, and if I can make someone feel better about themselves, hey.. that's what I'm here for.

So, I think in the spring of last year, maybe the summer.... a girlfriend and I were at Red Robins. Now, I love her a whole lot but sometimes I want to kill her. Our server came to the table, and introduced himself.... took our drink order and then proceeded to stare at me. ??? He was a normal looking guy, probably about uh... 18 years old or something like that. He kept staring and said "Do I know you from anywhere? I swear I've seen you before, do you go to Grant MacEwan?" And my girlfriend says, Quite Loudly, if I may... "Oh, get over it and ask her for her phone number already, that's what you want anyways". (OH MY GOODNESS) and then of course he goes completely silent, and I look down and inspect my menu.... And then.... she says, "Hey Julie, your face is going bright red!" and I said "That's because you are sooo embarrassing!" And of course, he is just standing there... listening... and then walks away and he didn't come back to our table at all! I think he sent some other server to our table.

Anyhow... hope I made your day. 

Peacock feathers...

One of my favorite moments ever in my life happened in 1996. A friend of mine walked to my house in a blizzard, to present me with a bouquet of Peacock feathers on my birthday. I will never forget how thoughtful that was, and how surprised I was! I love peacock feathers, and they lasted a long time too... until my cat ate them all. But I have a new peacock feather now, and he can't get at it! Vanessa Yanow makes these amazing necklaces out of hand-blown glass, charms, and zippers of all things. I was in St. Johns NFLD a couple of times this year, and when I saw these necklaces I just had to have one. I have a blue and gold zipper, with a peacock feather charm. If you take a look at the website, you can custom order one for yourself, just pick what color zipper and what kind of charm you like and they get mailed right to your home. You don't even have to get dressed and go out...

Fruitfull verses Fruitless...

Today was a FANTASTIC day, because I sold two items on ETSY in one day! That makes me so happy. There is no better flattery than people spending their hard earned money on something I made. And, I love making money and spending it on even more things to make. I am glad that I check ETSY on my coffee breaks, because I snapped up some showcase spots before everyone else did!

On another note....

I only managed to get lost once today, even though I went to map quest and had directions. And also had a friend draw me another map, and give me directions. Somehow right, right, left for me meant right, right, right... huh? Where am I going? But I am used to it. I think that my powers of observation somehow leave me when I get behind the wheel. I am way more observant when I dont' have to concentrate. That does make me sound incredabley stupid, but who cares, at least I am being honest. Some of my more famous driving incidents of last year involve me finding out that "Oh, this is a one way street?" "Hey, I am on the wrong side of the road".  And everybody's favorite.... "Yes, I did just rear-end a member of the Canadian Embassy". There is almost nothing that I hate more than fruitlessness. (With the exception of animal cruelty). For example, paying money into something without getting something out of it. I had just paid a thousand dollers in car maintenance with "borrowed" money, and then 6 days later totaled my car. I don't believe in Karma or anything like that. It's just that sometimes the plans we have for ourselves just don't turn out. I had planned to save vast amounts of money and buy a house this year. Oh, then I had to buy a new car and am making double car payments. So my plan of buying a house this year didn't turn out. And then.... the real estate market went insane, and the cheapest house I can find is in Peace River. I can't even afford to live in a trailer park. Oh my goodness. So, even though my plans didn't turn out, things could be worse. I still have all my fingers and toes.... and that's a good thing. See?

Neopolitian Nightmare...

I really need to stop thinking about Ice cream, but if you look at most of my posts, yup, it's about ice cream. I don't know why I do it, I suppose it's a compulsion of some sort. Like my innapropriate use of commas and ... ... ... they are everywhere! It's like I didn't go to school and just thought that adding them made words look pretty. But I did get high grades in English class, even if I still don't know exactly what an adjective is and I faked my way through a thesis. But I did make some lovelies to sell in the shop and elsewhere. I have been working hard, making lots and lots, and I guess that dessert got the better of me and here is a Neopolitan ice cream pouch, and the beloved Cup-a-cake design.... I have posted them at ETSY and hopefully they will sell as quick as a fox.    

Here is something that I never would have thought to make... a Nintendo controller case thingy. It's right here at CRAFT:, including a pattern. ??? Oh, and this week something fun came in the mail. I bought these really cool Mario buttons from an ETSY seller, Slevin11 and they are just fantastic! I spent MANY hours as a kid playing Mario 3.... and I used to use the Game Genie to make Mario have a permanent Frog suit. I love him hopping in that green suit... anyhow... I still spend time playing Mario 3 with friends, and we just can't get past world 8:3. I know that I did it as a kid, but I think maybe after I turned 20 I lost my skills. ??? 

Buried Treasure

I forgot to mention that I finally got a treasury list on ETSY. They are hard to come by, and very competitive! Mine is called Extraordinary Machine, and features random things I like. It expires in two days, so check it out while you can!

Best ever!

Last week was my birthday.... December 28th. If you forgot to send a gift, you still have time. I am accepting gifts and cards full of money all year-round. That being said... a friend of mine who must know me quite well gave me the best ever gift. I am forever having strange questions pop into my head, and this game proves that I am not the only one! It's called "Would you prefer?" from Lagoon Games, and I want to marry the person that invented it. Of course Lindsay* (name changed to protect privacy) pointed out that they might have been a woman, and I replied "Well, that's legal now too, isnt' it?" (Joking... ) Anyhow the game questions are as follows,

Would you prefer...

a) To have rubber skin OR

b) To have bendy straws for hair?

I originally picked rubber skin, but I change my answer to Bendy straws.

Would you prefer...

a) To have your eyes on the ends of your index fingers OR

b) To have your eyes in the back of your head?

I haven't picked an answer yet. I figure you would get some sort of arthritic disease if your eyes are on your fingers, and bump into a lot of things if your eyes are on the back of your head.

Not a total waste....

New things for a New Year?

Hopefully! I have been spending time with my secret lover.... (my sewing machine) (Oh yes.. I am the lamest).... making all kinds of sweet things to sell.  This year I plan to spend my Saturdays at a farmers market, peddling my vinyl goodness to unsuspecting browsers. I also plan to go on a trip, bet on a horse, take some classes,(don't know what yet), invent something fantastic, buy a new camera, keep my car clean, figure out what the secret ingredient is in Dr. Pepper, be able to fit into my favorite dress again, if I want to do that, I better not get that ice cream maker... Hmmm... what else? Oh, read more books. More intelligent books. Sometimes I pick them out for the cover, and it turns out that the book is really dumb. And... being completely stubborn and refusing to admit that I made a bad choice, I read the whole thing. I may not like it, but I read the whole thing. I really enjoy studying history, and notorious characters. I would like to learn more about Attila the Hun, Napoleon, Ivan the terrible, and maybe Jack the Ripper. I know that they are probably all evil, so why don't we throw in a biography for Fran Dresher and maybe Martha Stewart? Another goal is to see all the top 100 Worst Movies of the 20th century. (I have already seen almost 30 of them.) Maybe if I finish early I can watch the top 100 Best Movies list. Oh, and my secret goal is to maybe get a new tattoo? Very controversial topic.... if you know what I mean. And that being permanent... will require more thought. But, think on this, selah....
