I had a great year at the Fringe! Thank you so much to everyone that stopped by to get a new school bag, handbag, wallet or a pair of lego cufflinks! I appreciate so much all the love that comes my way by good comments on my designs, and props for putting myself through school. I couldn't do it without you!
Being self employed is hard, and everything rests on my shoulders... but to anyone that is brave enough to take the plunge I commend you! I was actually super flattered this month when 2 separate designer friends said that I inspired them to take the plunge and quit their jobs. It's worked out amazing for both of them, and I am so proud of all my friends for living the dream!
After the fringe pack-up I pulled an all-nighter and met a really good friend in Calgary to visit the John Fluevog shoe store! I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket from when I won the Top 15 Fluevog contest, and I had been meaning to check out the store since it opened in July. The staff is nice, the store is right by the "Calgary Space Needle" as I call it, and I got beautiful new, nearly free Fluevog shoes.
Now I'm at home, sick, on the couch watching movies and enjoying my 2 weeks before school starts...
Also, Coming soon! There will be a major overhaul with my products. I am re-designing EVERYTHING and making it fresh... I can't wait to share sneak peeks with you!
Thank you so much to everyone that came down to the Folk Fest for a new bag/waller or some lego accessories! I really appreciate all the nice compliments that I get and I really enjoyed meeting everyone that I met. I was especially glad to be next to a bestie, Cheryl of Cloud and Lolly. If you have a chance, come to the downtown market and check out her jewellery, because it's fab. This weekend I sold out of the new cuff-link designs, BUT still have time to make more this week for the Edmonton Fringe Festival. So see you there? Starts Thursday night!
I also had the best helper this weekend... thank you Paula for being awesome!
This morning instead of sleeping in after the Folk Fest I took my little nieces to the Telus world of Science for a fun filled last day in Canada. We had a great time, although I think the Sesame Street exhibit was seriously over-rated. The kids were mesmerized by the automatic-ball-dropper-perpetual-motion-machine-thing outside of the building, which was one of my favorite things to watch when I was small also! Tmro my family goes back to Vietnam and my house will be clean, quiet and not have cartoons on all day. I finally can get some sleep! BUT--- considering I only get to see them once a year, I will miss them a lot. The lack of sleep was definitely worth it in the end. It's pretty cool to see the kids grow up, and even better when they act impossible for their Mom. Considering she was pretty impossible from what I remember. HAHA payback!
So for pretty much my whole life I have been obsessed with the circus. And, truthfully I didn't get to go to the circus until I was 27-28, I think. It was a fabulous first date, where the guy actually juggled fire, for me... with his bare hands. And after the past few years being circus-depreived I have decided to grab the bull by the balls and just get over it and... Learn how to BREATH FIRE.

Did you see the price? Well this student is happy.
I first heard about fiverr on Regretsy... where I spend way too much time laughing at people's ugly crafts. And, the rest of the time I am amazed that the regretsy staff actually found the hidden gems to share with us. Etsy is like a crazy crazy world where everyone is on acid, or cupcakes. Or owls. Or steampunk. But I digress.... and my first fiverr purchase should arrive around the middle of August. I'll give you a hint, it's techno, it's about a bikini, and a bake sale.
This is crazy, it must be year of the pickle or something... I'm in a third treasury list with the same item! I have been making passport sleeves for years... since 2006 or 2007... On my first big flight to Bangkok I noticed that my passport was hard to find in my bag, so I started making crazy colorful sleeves to slip them in and protect them from spills and grime.
I had a fantastic day and I have the sunburn to prove it. I had no idea there was a splashpark 3 blocks from my house! My sister and I took my nieces out and hurrah, had a few hours of un-suspected fun. Except when the homeless lady came and took a bath at the splash park. That was kind of awkward.
BUT when we got home I had some packages of cool new lego to make into cool new things...
Today in the studio we made over 100 really cool new lego pendants! All I can say is that they are pretty rad, and I don't want to sell any because I want them all for ME. But I will. I'll post pictures soon.
Also have about 100 more lego earrings up for grabs... thanks to my lovely sister who packaged them all up while I was busy sewing more change purses...
I have a new cufflink design coming out, which you can find at the Edmonton Folk Music Fest Aug 4-7!
My Mustache Keychains have been featured again in a treasury list! At first I got annoyed that so many people on etsy have copied my exact idea and design, but I guess it's flattering. And when I die I can rest easy knowing that I made a difference in the world.
thanks so much passedby for helping spread the mustache love! This is the first time I have seen passedby's shop, and it's a really cool vintage shop... check it out! They have some awesome vintage license plate necklaces and I think I need to have one....
Next week will be my LAST week at the city market for a while, but come check out the FOLK FEST Aug 4-7... and the FRINGE Aug 12-21!
